Welcome to the 2017-18 school year!

I know that every school year brings with it an excitement for the new year - and this year is very special as it marks the beginning of our transformation as a district. We have been very busy this summer improving our learning centers in preparation for the wonderful learning opportunities to come! As a faculty, we spent the previous school year preparing for this “New Beginning” and anxiously await the implementation of our planning and hard work.

Our learners will be entering an environment at Tecumseh Public Schools where they will be provided opportunities to identify and explore their gifts and talents. Both Early Learning Centers will focus on the whole child; helping each learner through these important years of development. At Compass Learning Center, our learners will have the opportunity to explore learning in a new way---where they will be able to tap into their passions to engage in the learning process. At our East and West STEAM Centers, learners will have the freedom to further explore their gifts, talents and passions through identifying real-world problems and work collaboratively with their peers and their teachers to find viable solutions. This work will be done in a project-based, flexible, and personalized learning environment.

Finally, our high school learners will be met by educators working to help young men and women better define their path to success. It may be through our Middle College model, where learners have the ability to earn up to an associate's degree as part of their high school career. It may be through courses such as Genius Hour, Mechatronics or Project- Based Learning that they further define their path in life. It may be through our fine arts programming where they can explore the arts in a variety of ways--including band, orchestra, choir, and art opportunities throughout the school year. Or, it may be through extended learning opportunities including job shadowing, internships, or career-technical educational courses. The possibilities are endless!

This will also be a year of community partnerships. We are so thankful for our partnership with First Federal who has generously supported our collaboration spaces in our STEAM Centers. We are thankful for our partnership with Community Learning Connections, formerly Communities In Schools of the Tecumseh Area, who will connect our district with volunteers around the community to support our Compass learners before the school day starts. We couldn’t do what we do without our other community partners who will open up their businesses and nonprofits to provide learning opportunities through service projects throughout the year.

It is truly a “New Beginning” for the learners, educators, parents, and community members of Tecumseh Public Schools. For more information about what Tecumseh Public Schools has to offer, please visit our website or give us a call at 517.424.7318.

Respectfully,
