Manufacturing Day is an annual event that occurs on the first Friday of October. It is a coordinated occasion during which U.S. manufacturers open their doors to demonstrate the potential of modern manufacturing and foster interest in manufacturing careers. This year, learners from Tecumseh East STEAM Center participated for the first time.
In previous years, learners at Tecumseh East had participated in a career cruising project, where they were able to research potential careers that interested them and what kind of education was needed to achieve those careers. This year, all of the learners that had expressed an interest in manufacturing, industrial technology, and the sciences were invited to take part in Manufacturing Day with tours of Wacker Chemical and Glycon Corp.
They were able to tour each facility and learn about the manufacturing of their products, the type of education and training that the employees had received, and ask as many questions as they could think of about careers in those fields. They were even able to connect their tours back to their current project-based learning assignment on water conservation, asking about how Wacker and Glycon are helping to improve the environment, specifically with wastewater from their plants.
Tecumseh Public Schools would like to extend our deepest thanks to both Wacker Chemical and Glycon Corp for hosting our learners for the day and becoming a part of their educational journey.
