Parents of learners with IEPs are invited to attend the first Parent to Parent meeting of the 2018-19 school year on Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 6 - 7 p.m. in the TPS Administrative Services Building.
Parent to Parent provides parents and guardians the chance to come together to talk with Student Support Services staff, learn about available resources, and share ideas and experiences with others in an informal setting.
"Caring for a child with special needs and navigating the educational system can be challenging," said Laurie Church, Director of Student Support Services. "These meetings allow parents to learn from each others who may had have similar challenges. Parents of older children can serve as mentors to those with younger children."
The guest presenter for the evening is Michelle Hutchison, the district's Social Emotional Learning Consultant. Discussion topics include social emotional learning, brain development, and how trauma affects learning.
