Tecumseh Compass Learners Build a Little Library

Two Tecumseh Compass learners decided to build a Little Library for their Genius Hour project. Lily Griewahn and Sophia Torres decided that they wanted to do something that would encourage people to read, so they researched building a Little Free Library for their Genius Hour project. A Little Free Library is set up so that people can pick and trade books without going to the library. The two girls researched the history of Little Libraries and how to build one during their class time. They then enlisted their dads to help with construction at home. They had their class vote on the paint job and then Director of Facilities Josh Mattison installed it outside of Compass along Ottawa Street.

The Little Library

Lily and Sophia would like to specially thank their new Compass librarian for donating the first books to kick off the Little Library. The official dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Little Library was attended by family, friends, Representative Bronna Kahle, City Manager Dan Swallow, and the Chamber of Commerce.
