Tecumseh High School junior Tommy Hodgman will represent Tecumseh Public Schools at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival this Saturday (May 11, 2018) at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo as a member of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) All-State Honors Choir. The route to All-State began for Tommy back in October when he and 22 other Tecumseh High School students auditioned for the MSVMA Regional Honor Choir that performed at Western Michigan University in December 2017. 15 singers qualified for Regional Honors Choir from THS. During the December Regional Honor Choir day, Tommy and all the THS students completed another audition which led he and six other THS students to performances in Grand Rapids at the Michigan Music Conference in January 2018. From the roughly 300 singers who performed in Grand Rapids, about 100 are chosen to perform for the Michigan Youth Arts Festival, and Tommy will be one of those singers. The Michigan Youth Arts Festival also includes band, orchestra, choir and chamber music event as well as visual art exhibitions.
THS Choir Director Brett Yzquierdo will accompany Tommy to Kalamazoo this weekend and participate in a variety of MSVMA-related events. Tommy is a member of the THS Chamber Singers as well as the drum major and a trombone player for the THS Band. He recently performed the role of Shrek in the Tecumseh Youth Theatre March 2018 show. Tommy is the son of Tom Hodgman and Colleen Conway and his grandmother, Helen Hodgman also lives here in Tecumseh.
