While many learners are still enjoying summer vacation, the Shooting Stars Marching Band is hard at work preparing for the 2018 marching season. Band Camp opened Monday, June 30 and 75 musicians reported to school for a five-day intensive training experience. The learners spend almost 11 hours each day learning new formations and rehearsing this year’s musical selections.
Director Joe McInchak, credits the support of boosters, parents, and alumni for a successful band camp experience.
“Our two camp coordinators, Shannon Aubert and Elaine Stoerger, connect with the boosters and parents to get all of the volunteers for the camp,” said McInchak. “We also have alumni come back and work with our learners. It’s a lot of people, but it takes a team to make camp a productive and positive experience. ”
The theme for this year’s show will be “The Greatest Shows on Earth,” and will feature music from famous Broadway musicals like Les Misérables and Wicked.
