Welcome to Tecumseh East STEAM Center!

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century!

The Tecumseh Public School STEAM Centers are a fully Project-Based Learning environment integrating all content areas. This model will blend all subjects in authentic learning units. Learners will be presented with a real-world problem, then the Learning Facilitators will lead the learners through lessons and activities incorporating content standards to guide them in the process of developing a solution.

In addition, learners will have the opportunity to select exploratory courses (Fine Arts, Project Lead the Way, Computer Science, Foreign Language, etc.) throughout the year. These offerings will vary in length and subject matter during the year depending on the units of study and learner interest.

To ensure all learners complete the standards required, all learners will receive a base schedule, and then, with the guidance of their mentor, learning facilitators, and parents, schedule direct instruction sessions and other options. These schedules will be extremely flexible in nature, and will be revisited on a regular basis during mentor time.

TPS believes that learners have a natural curiosity that drives learning. Learners at Tecumseh East STEAM will be engaged in a learning environment tailored to their interests, talents, and skills allowing learners to continually grow. Educational risk taking will be encouraged throughout the learning process, and self evaluation and reflection will be a vital part of the learning process.

The Tecumseh Public Schools STEAM Centers strive to provide a dynamic learning environment through project-based learning. Learners will have an opportunity to explore curriculum in a way that interests them and express themselves in a medium of their choice. The mission of TPS is to be “Uncompromisingly Learner Centered,” and the Tecumseh STEAM Centers will live this mission each and every day.

Band, Choir, and Orchestra are offered to learners in grades 5 - 12. Scheduling flexibility at STEAM Centers and THS means learners may choose to enroll in more than one music class.
