Seven THS Choir members traveled to Western Michigan University on Saturday, Dec. 1 to participate in the Michigan School Vocal Music Association Region B Honors Choir.
Rebecca Gray, Hannah Rowe, Veda Massanari-Thatcher, Elizabeth Lacasse, Nadia Kelham, Raven Carson, and Isaac Thompson were selected from hundreds of students from across the state of Michigan for this honor. Each submitted a recorded audition piece in October. Judges then selected the top performers to participate in four regional honors choirs, all of which took place on the same day.
During the 10-hour event, singers have the opportunity to work with master teachers as they prepare seven college-level pieces of music for an evening performance. Each learners also completes a rigorous audition process to earn a spot in the State Honors Choir. Auditions require learners to perform a memorized piece of music without accompaniment before a judge, and sigh-tread a new piece of music to test for music literacy skill.
Hannah Rowe, Veda Massanari-Thatcher, Elizabeth Lacasse, Nadia Kelham, Raven Carson, and Isaac Thompson were selected to be a part of the State Honors Choir at the annual Michigan Music Conference. They will rehearse and perform at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel and Devos Hall in Grand Rapids, MI on January 24-26.
