superintendent search

The search for the next superintendent of Tecumseh Public Schools is winding down, as the interview process will begin on Saturday, March 16, 2024. This follows the retirement announcement of the current TPS Superintendent, Richard W. Hilderley.

Superintendent Hilderley revealed his retirement plans before the start of the 2023-2024 school year, with his official departure from the District scheduled for Sunday, June 30, 2024.

At the Special Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday, March 12, board members selected four candidates for the superintendent position to interview. The Board expressed satisfaction with the quality of the candidate pool, which attracted 23 applicants. Assisting the Board in the search process is the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB), with Dr. Rodney Green serving as the consultant.

Candidates and the times they will be interviewed on Saturday, March 16, are as follows:

  • Stephen Doerr - 9 am

    • Current Superintendent of East Jackson Schools (since 2016)

  • Aaron Shinn - 10:10 am

    • Current Principal of Milan High School (since 2016)

  • Kimberly Irish - 11:20 am

    • Current Principal of Tecumseh High School (since 2022)

  • Matt Hilton - 1 pm

    • Current Executive Director for Elementary Education at Ann Arbor Public Schools (since 2021)

Each interview is anticipated to span approximately one hour, with a lunch break slated for 12:30 pm. Following the interviews, the Board will determine the candidates who will proceed to a second round of interviews.

The second round of interviews is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, with an “Open House” planned to introduce candidates to the staff and community at 4 pm before interviews commence at 6 pm.

The Board expects the newly appointed superintendent to begin approximately June 1, 2024.
