love your lungs

Tecumseh Public Schools students leading the way in the 12th annual 'Love Your Lungs' contest.

14 students from the district were winners in this year's contest, which started back in late February. The posters and certificates were distributed recently as an awards ceremony, originally scheduled for the Spring, was canceled because of the pandemic.

The 'Love Your Lungs -- Keep Them Smoke Free' contest was put on by the Greater Lenawee Tobacco Reduction Coalition. It's sponsored by the Lenawee County Health Department. The contest promotes student awareness of the harmful effects of both smoking, vaping and second-hand smoke. The contest is open to all Lenawee County students in grades 4 through 8. Last year, nearly 300 students from all across the county submitted art for the contest.

Taking the top prize was Lucas Emrick and Tanner Linde. For finishing first place, the pair's poster was made into a billboard. It'll be up for several weeks. The billboard sits right across from Danley's, off of M-50.

Taking second place was Aria Ely. Rounding out the top 3 was Lauren Kilbarger and Kaylie Livingston. Their posters are being printed as tray liners and used at Lenawee County McDonald's locations.
