Today is Veterans Day, and we honor our military veterans for their hard work, sacrifice, and absolute dedication to our country. This day is for all who served in the US Armed Forces. Originally called Armistice Day, November 11 marks the end of World War 1, which occurred on November 11, 1918. In 1954, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to pay tribute to the veterans of all wars. It is celebrated every November 11 and has been a Federal holiday since 1926. Here at Tecumseh Public Schools, our veterans make a difference daily in our District. Thank you for your courage, selflessness, sacrifice, and bravery in protecting our freedom. We will never forget your service. Greg Dolson, Sgt. Chad Rodgers, Tim Mark, Magnum Stead, Paul Wellman, Dan Koerber, Nick Benschoter , Tom Hawkins, Dan Frank In October, we lost Jim Pearsall. Jim bravely served our country in the US Air Force. He was a custodian for the District, and he would always light up when talking about his grandchildren. We miss you, Jim. Home of the free because of the brave. We honor and thank all the men and women who have served our nation.

What a great turnout this morning for the Veterans Day Breakfast at Tecumseh Middle School. Our TMS staff and Cadets from Tecumseh High School cooked and served pancakes, sausages, and more for dozens of our veterans. They ate breakfast with our 8th graders. Before breakfast started, our Chamber choir from THS sang The Star-Spangled Banner. A little bit later, members from the TMS band and 8th grade Orchestra performed. The TSO performed the Armed Forces Salute, a collection of songs from the GoArmy, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, and United States Air Force. The middle school also held a Gratitude Campaign. TMS students wrote and delivered over 1,000 letters to our veterans. We hope this leaves a lasting impact on our veterans as it has on our students. This was a small token of appreciation for veterans who have bravely dedicated their lives to defending our freedom. We are going to single out Carrie Barden and Kristin Hess. Without these two, these projects would not have happened. Thank you for your hard work! Also, thank you to Tuckeys Big Boy and Busch's Fresh Food Market in Tecumseh for their donations. Big Boy was kind enough to provide food and manpower, and a Busch's gift card went towards dinnerware and supplies.

This afternoon, we thank everyone who went to the polls and supported Tecumseh Public Schools. We also want to thank everyone who put in hours of time and effort in educating the public on these matters. While both bond proposals did not pass, we appreciate everyone who voted and respect your choice and the outcome of this election. “The needs of our district have not changed (as a result of these outcomes). We must address our outdated infrastructure, security, and other important items such as the Tecumseh Community Pool,” said Superintendent Rick Hilderley. The Board will begin the conversation at their November 28 meeting. Again, we thank you for making your voice heard, but please understand the District still needs your support as we move forward and determine our next course of action.

It's Election Day! Instead of discussing what's on the ballot relating to Tecumseh Public Schools, this post focuses on some of our students. Tecumseh High School students Aaron Norden, Izaac Morrison, and Ray Ferguson are certified Election Inspectors! The trio went through hours of training to be sworn in to help work the polls today. They will welcome voters to the precinct, verify voter registration, issue ballots, and more! If you're voting at Raisin Community Center, don't forget to say hi!

Ahead of Veterans Day on Friday, November 11, students from Tecumseh Middle School stopped by Brookside Cemetery this morning. They located the headstones of veterans and cleaned them thoroughly, along with some help from others. The students encountered veterans of several wars, including World Wars I and II. Some of the stones had mold and dirt build-up, but the students did a fantastic job of being respectful in their cleaning. The Tecumseh Middle School Builders Club, which included members and non-members, put together the cleaning, and the students were overseen today by Board of Education Trustee Mary Tommelein. Don’t forget that TMS will host a Veterans Day breakfast on Thursday, November 10. The breakfast will run from 8am-9:30am. Veterans, we would love for you to join our 8th graders for breakfast. For more information on the breakfast, please contact: 👩: Jayme Funchion 📱: 517-423-1105 📧: jfunchion@tps.k12.mi.us

As Vann and his family go through this next phase, we hope you will support the 'Victory for Vann' campaign. Starting now and for the next several weeks, we are selling shirts with 100% of proceeds going to Vann and his family. Please consider supporting the Burpee family during this challenging time. The students were challenged with tough words, but in the end, the top five spellers from each grade will move on and represent Tecumseh in the spelling bee. The winners will have some time to prepare. The Milan Regional Spelling Bee is set for Saturday, November 12. Good luck!

Bon appétit! Students in Ms. Weaver's class at Tecumseh Middle School made their own personal pizzas. The process was all on the students. They made their grocery list and filled out a recipe card. They built their pizzas with all of their favorite ingredients!

A small act of love, such as donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our homeless or needy neighbors. Right now, students and staff at Tecumseh Middle School and Tecumseh High School (high school drive put on by Sources of Strength) are collecting new socks for Socktober! Small gifts matter, and as the weather turns cooler, even one donation of new socks can make a world of difference for someone in need. If you want to donate, you can send the socks to school with your student or drop them off at TMS or THS.
