It's the holiday season, and that means we're getting festive here at TPS! In one of the classrooms, students at Tecumseh Middle School are spreading holiday cheer by decorating Christmas cookies. Instructional Assistant Michelle Benham baked the delicious cookies for Madison Weaver's class, and the students brought their creative skills to life with colorful frosting and sprinkles. It was a fun and tasty way to celebrate the season while encouraging teamwork and creativity.

The Art Club from Tecumseh High School brought their creativity and mentorship to Tecumseh Acres Early Learning Center for an hour of winter-themed activities to wrap up the school day! The high school students paired up with the younger learners to work on various fun and festive projects, including crafting popsicle stick snowflakes, engineering snowball launchers, and competing in a fast-paced game to see who could assemble a paper snowman the quickest. This collaboration allowed the younger students to explore their artistic talents and provided the Art Club members with a rewarding opportunity to connect with the students. Events like these help our oldest students build meaningful relationships with our youngest students and create a shared love for the arts. #TecumsehPublicSchools #art #ArtClub #mentoring #creativeconnections #winterartfun

They're celebrating fall at Tecumseh Public Schools Preschool! 🍂🍂🍂 Mrs. Hassenger, Mrs. Hailperin, Mr. Walch, and Mrs. Narsesian’s GSRP class wrapped up their Tree Study with a special celebration! Families joined us for fun fall activities, including making leaf people and enjoying some applesauce. The Lenawee District Library stopped by and shared Lois Ehlert's story "Leaf Man," inspiring creativity and wonder about where the wind might take the colorful leaves this season. This autumnal classic showcases stunning illustrations made from real fall leaves and celebrates the beauty of nature and imagination. A big thank you to everyone who made this a fun day of learning! #TecumsehPublicSchools #TecumsehPreschool #LeafMan #familyengagement

It’s never too early to start thinking about what career interests you. Third graders from Tecumseh Acres Early Learning Center had the chance to learn more about law enforcement, teacher education, and auto/collision careers. The students participated in Elementary Explorer Day and visited the LISD TECH Center. Space is limited during this event as Tecumseh Acres ELC and Sutton Early Learning Center trade off years, and this year, it was Acres’ turn to visit the TECH Center. The students had a great time learning about each career through hands-on activities, and the students and staff at the TECH Center did an excellent job teaching. Thank you to the TECH Center staff for creating such an inspiring day of learning and discovery! Experiences like these help spark curiosity and show students that their dreams for the future are within reach. #TecumsehPublicSchools #LenaweeIntermediateSchoolDistrict #LISDTECHCenter #ElementaryExplorerDay #futurecareers #CareerExploration #handsonlearning #EarlyEducation

Today, on Veterans Day, we pay tribute to our military veterans' remarkable dedication, sacrifice, and hard work. This day stands as a testament to all those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Originally known as Armistice Day, November 11 signifies the end of World War I, concluding on November 11, 1918. In 1954, this day was renamed Veterans Day to honor veterans from all conflicts. It's a yearly celebration on November 11 and has held federal holiday status since 1926. Within Tecumseh Public Schools, our veterans contribute significantly daily to our district. Their courage, selflessness, sacrifice, and valor in safeguarding our freedom are deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten. We thank you for your service. The liberty we cherish is safeguarded by the bravery of those who have served. We honor and appreciate all the men and women who have selflessly served our nation. #TecumsehPublicSchools #VeteransDay #thankyouforyourservice #thankaveteran

Physical Education teachers Will Kasper from Tecumseh High School and Kristy Zajac from Tecumseh Middle School were both surprised during their classes this week. Both teachers were awarded the Lenawee County Education Foundation (LCEF) Teacher Innovative and Enrichment grant! Mr. Kasper was awarded over $1,400, and Ms. Zajac was awarded over $1,200. Both teachers will use the money for PE equipment at each building. The LCEF collaborates with County National Bank, Old National Bank, Your Premier Bank, and TLC Community CU for this grant program. The LCEF Strokes for Students golf outing also made this possible. This initiative provides funding for teachers to develop and implement instructional projects throughout the academic year that inspire and challenge students. The proposals focus on unique classroom projects designed to enhance and enrich the curriculum. The LCEF uses community donations to help fund innovative educational programs that a school’s budget doesn’t typically cover. Presenting the grants were LCEF Board Trustee members Marcy Brown and Pam VanDoren and County National Bank representatives Wendy Pizana, Julie Miller, and Chris Tarsha.

It was an exciting day for Young 5s students at Tecumseh Acres Early Learning Center. The Michigan Avian Experience visited students and brought a Great Horned Owl! This is all part of the Creative Curriculum Tree Study the Young 5s students have been learning about. They’ve been talking about animals that live in trees. They read “Owl Babies” by Martin Waddell and discovered some fascinating facts: • Baby owls are called Branchers when they can sit on tree branches • Owls see in shades of white and black, not colors • They have 14 bones in their necks • The owl they met weighs about four pounds • Owl wings are soft and silent, and our students even got to touch a Barred Owl wing The Michigan Avian Experience was founded to ignite the passion for birds and flight. By partnering with non-releasable, wild native raptors, the group travels across the state to provide an engaging, educational, and conservation-focused experience that leaves a lasting impact. It was a memorable day filled with learning and wonder! Thank you to the Michigan Avian Experience for dropping by. Also, thank you to the Tecumseh Acres ELC PTO for sponsoring this amazing event! #TecumsehPublicSchools #MichiganAvianExperience

If there was a burning smell around Tecumseh High School, don’t worry; it was totally normal. Students in the Ceramics class took part in raku firing with horsehair. This is a ceramic technique in which horsehair is applied to a piece of pottery immediately after it is removed from a raku kiln at a high temperature. Temps usually range from 1,000°F to 1,500°F! The hair burns on contact, leaving behind unique carbon markings on the surface of the pottery. The result is a decorative, spontaneous pattern of black lines and smoky textures unique to each piece. What’s really cool about the firing process is that it produces unpredictable and unique glaze results in the finished work. The skull ceramic pieces are made of clay and designed by the students. This was a Halloween project, and the Day of the Dead inspired the pieces. #TecumsehPublicSchools #TecumsehHighSchool #ceramicsclass #rakupottery #rakufiring

Now, this is probably the best yearbook photo of any employee here at Tecumseh Public Schools! 🐕🐾 If you didn’t already know, this is K9 Officer Buddy! He’s been on the job at TPS for over two months now. Officer Buddy’s partner is our School Resource Officer, Sgt. Scott Lambka of the Tecumseh Police Department. When Officer Buddy isn’t sleeping on the job, he’s working in different situations. However, Officer Buddy isn’t your typical K9 officer. He is a non-aggressive K9 officer trained to perform standard police dog duties, such as detecting contraband and assisting in search efforts. Perhaps the most significant thing Officer Buddy has been outstanding at is providing therapeutic support for students and staff. Officer Buddy has been a valuable addition to our team, offering immeasurable support to our students, including those in crisis. This program, including the purchase and training of Officer Buddy, was all paid for by safety grants. Don’t worry. We’ll have plenty of more Officer Buddy footage in the near future! #TecumsehPublicSchools #K9OfficerBuddy #K9Officer #TecumsehPoliceDepartment

It was recently Fire Prevention Week, but did you know October is actually Fire Prevention Month? A big shoutout to the Raisin Township Fire Department for hanging out at Sutton Early Learning Center today! They talked with students and educated them about basic fire safety and prevention practices, such as when and how to call 911 in case of an emergency, the importance of having a fire escape plan at home, and more. There was even a demonstration of how firefighters wear their equipment and look and sound when wearing their gear so kids are not scared in a real emergency. The best part was probably that the students got inside the fire truck! They were able to take in the big interior's surroundings. Thank you, Raisin Township Fire Department, for helping our students learn these important lessons in such a fun and memorable way! #TecumsehPublicSchools #FirePreventionMonth #firesafety

A yearly tradition during Homecoming Week is that the Shooting Stars Marching Band visits our students at TPS buildings! Over 80 Tecumseh High School student musicians, performers, and cheerleaders stopped by Tecumseh Acres Early Learning Center, Sutton Early Learning Center, and Tecumseh Middle School to play some songs and get our younger students involved in the action. The energy was contagious as the younger students cheered and had a chance to interact with the performers, fostering a sense of community and school spirit that connected all grade levels. #TecumsehPublicSchools #homecomingweek

As part of Homecoming Week celebrations, Tecumseh High School's Art Club students brought their creativity downtown by giving local shops a colorful makeover. Partnering with businesses like Modish Styles, Hopscotch Kids, Salsaria's, The Matthews House Shop, Tecumseh Antique Appeal, Howard Hanna Real Estate Services- Lenawee County, The Dog House Restaurant, and Basil Boys, our talented artists painted vibrant designs on storefront windows, adding a fresh splash of color and charm to our community. A huge thank you to our artists for their amazing work and to these local businesses for supporting this yearly collaboration! This week is National Fire Prevention Week! To kick it off, kindergartners from Tecumseh Acres Early Learning Center visited the Tecumseh Fire Department. Students from Lindsey Saxton, Carrie Northup, and Elizabeth Wilcoxen’s classes toured the station, learning important fire safety lessons like 'Stop, Drop, and Roll,' how to safely escape a burning building, and how smoke alarms help keep us safe. The highlight? Getting to climb into a fire truck and explore the gear firefighters use every day! Has your child shared their favorite part of the day? Talk to them about fire safety at home and practice your family’s fire drill. #TecumsehPublicSchools #FirePreventionWeek #FireSafety #keepingourkidssafe
