Today, we officially say goodbye to the old Tecumseh Public Schools administration building. The District finalized the sale of the building and property with LRC Commercial. We can’t wait to see what the redevelopment of this property looks like and the impact it will have on the community. The Ottawa Street property has served many different purposes for TPS. Built in 1918, the building was a high school, a junior high for seventh and eighth grades, and, eventually, the board/administration office. While closed now for several years, we will cherish the building after decades of inspiring young minds and creating countless memories. To every student, teacher, parent, guardian, and staff member who ever set foot in that building, thank you for being an integral part of our District’s story.

Out of an abundance of caution, today’s youth football camp at Tecumseh High School has been postponed due to the weather. Today’s date will be moved to tomorrow, Tuesday, June 27th. Wednesday and Thursday’s dates this week remain the same. The times for these camp dates also remain the same, which is 11 am-Noon.

Before the end of the school year, students at Patterson Intermediate Learning Center held one final assembly. This was the PBIS Year-End Celebration. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. PBIS is an approach schools use to promote school safety and behavior. Students and staff celebrated after putting in a great school year filled with hard work and determination. During this assembly, there was a dance party! We’re excited for the students as some move to fourth grade, and others are headed to Tecumseh Middle School.

It feels like something straight out of a science fiction film. You’ve probably seen it before, but our students at Tecumseh Middle School had the opportunity to meet Spot, a four-legged robot from Boston Dynamics, in person. Spot is an agile, mobile robot that navigates the terrain with unprecedented mobility. Boston Dynamics is a robotics company known for creating advanced and highly capable robots. Skipp Findley, a Layout Engineer with Micron Technology, brought Spot along for his visit to TMS. Skipp is no stranger to the District. He’s a 1991 graduate of Tecumseh High School. The ‘Project Lead The Way’ folks at TMS were able to connect with Skipp and quickly set up a visit before the end of the school year. Students were very impressed with seeing the bot firsthand, watching it work, and seeing it in person, something they have seen on videos throughout the year.

Check out this project at Tecumseh Acres Early Learning Center. Students made seed pods to learn how seeds move by animals and wind. The students would test them in the classroom and then go outside to retest in the wind. They were even able to touch and see different seeds while outside. #TecumsehPublicSchools #TecumsehAcresELC #seedpods

Past and present history was on display at Sutton Early Learning Center. Our second-grade students recently hosted a famous biographical person museum. The goal was to teach about influential people from the past and present. The students researched and dressed up as their famous characters and gave a presentation about their history. Students were able to demonstrate their projects/presentations to the best audience of all, their families! The audience could walk around and push the Museum button to hear information about each famous person. The students worked hard on this project, showing dedication to the subject material by learning more about history.

Have you ever heard of a ‘mud kitchen?’ After several years of thought, one just opened up at Tecumseh Acres Early Learning Center! A mud kitchen is an outdoor setup for children to pretend to prepare and cook food using any combination of mud, sand, grass, and water. The kitchens usually involve a surface to work, a sink or bin area, shelves, bowls, mud, and other tools. This mud kitchen is a teaching tool that fits the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Creative Curriculum taught by Young 5s-Kindergarten teacher Kim Scheerer. These mud kitchens encourage children to talk about what they’re doing, and the messy play often gets young learners feeling more confident about speaking and sharing their thoughts. A special thanks to our paraprofessional, Sue Randolph, and her husband for the kitchen out of pallets.

Some Herrick Park Intermediate Learning Center students and staff got their steps in and stopped by Tecumseh High School this morning. The third graders visited the Sculpture Garden. They partnered with THS art students and participated in different stations and activities revolving around the Sculpture Garden. The HP students also learned more about the sculptures that call the Garden home.
